Cruising Christmas Island (Kiritimati) & Fanning Island

Christmas island (or Kiritimati Island) and Fanning Island (or Tabuaeran Island) both located in the Kiribati Line Islands Group have become very popular as new Cruise ship destinations for cruise passengers.

Christmas Island receives surprise cruise tours from cruise ships on an irregular basis, and it is also very popular for diving and game fly-fishing. Every year most American tourists come to Christmas Island to enjoy and experience the adventures in bonefish fishing and big trevally fishing.

Fanning Island however is the very popular cruise destination with cruise visits provided by the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). NCL is currently operating a fixed cruise schedule with Fanning Island up until the year 2010. Every 10 to 11 days an NCL cruise vessel visits Fanning Island.

On the island, passengers are welcomed with local dances, and participate in island tours, and activities such as sightseeing, windsurfing, fishing, snorkeling, and swimming in the clear blue lagoon.

Cruise operators are advised that a Cruise Head Tax of $USD6.00 per passenger is charged, irrespective of whether their passengers land or not during their call.
